Based: New York, Germany

Producing cross-rhythms like a drummer, smashing chordal flourishes like flamenco Guitarist and collating bebop and Colombian music, Edmar is almost a world unto him-self - The New York Times

The phenomenal Colombian harpist Edmar Castaneda, whose technically astounding approach to the instrument normally associated with classical music has been registering with scenesters over the past year. Covering independent, heavily grooving bass lines with his left hand while chording and also running counterpoint melodies and dazzling triplet figures with his right hand (a kind of Charlie Hunter or Joe Passian approach to the harp) - Jazz Times

Edmar Castañeda has performed and recorded to rave critical reviews with an impressive lineup including the Chico O'Farrill Afro-Cuban Jazz Big Band, Lila Downs, Giovanni Hidalgo, Paquito D'Rivera, Wynton Marsalis, John Patitucci, Dave Samuels, John Scofield, Marcus Miller and many other great artists.
The legendary Paquito D’Rivera, recently Latin Grammy 2011 awarded for his Panamericana Suite - project in which Edmar participated - has remarked: “Edmar is an enormous talent; he has the versatility and the enchanting charisma of a musician who has taken his harp out of the shadow to become one of the most original musicians from the Big Apple”

ASTILLERO (Argentina)

On stage: 7 + 1 crew

Touring period: Spring / Autumn 2013

Based: Argentina

Booking territory: coop.Europe

ASTILLERO - red-hot Tango Nuevo from Buenos Aires; sextet plus singer; new, self-composed music; arranged by the members of the group; the live-appeal of a Rock-band; live-videoscreening; a new generation; post-Piazzolla; young. This is the substrate of a new popmusic- phenomenon from Buenos Aires.
The sound of Astillero is forceful, vertiginous, breathtaking, raw yet sophisticated: a rollercoaster ride of throbbing accents modulating into earth-shattering pianissimos and beyond. Yet this wild sound is entirely hand-made, free of any gimmicks, 100% acoustic: the sound of just wood and strings, brought to searing life by an acute sense for translating the experience of 21st century urban life into new music, built on a solid traditional foundation of Buenos Aires’ tango. The orchestra, though featuring the typical instruments of a classic tango ensemble (two bandoneons, violin, piano, cello, double bass, and a singer) is a tango formation that has nothing to do with the ‘tango’ of our collective consciousness. Astillero proposes a completely new vision of tango, incisive and intense, rough and violent, reflecting the times we live in.
From their all-original compositions, some instrumental, some with lyrics, emerges a tango that is stripped down yet rich and original. The sounds of Astillero are the sounds of Buenos Aires today - the way they play their music reflects the incongruities and madness of this urban jungle; it kicks, breaks, hurts, jumps. The fresh lyrics add to the rawness - a rough but tender voice, that cares and tears at the same time. The concept goes even beyond music, developed further by video images; poetic and political, projected live to complement the deluge of sound.
The group’s young members have been steeped in traditional tango from early on. At the forefront of the recent ‘Maquina Tanguera’ movement of contemporary tango in Buenos Aires; they have worked with a number of important groups from the scene before forming Astillero in 2005. Years of study and research have also led them to become themselves teachers to the younger generation, through their work with a number of independent organisations and social projects.
With 15 European tours in recent years, and a much-talked-about showcase at WOMEX 08 in Sevilla, Astillero are now fast building an international following. The secret is out, and the word is spreading! Next Album comes in May 2012.

"Urban, restless edginess… offers real originality" - FROOTS MAGAZINE

EDWIN BONILLA (Puerto Rico)

This multi-talented Puerto Rican is an accomplished musician, songwriter and producer, but more importantly he has been captivating “salseros” all over the world with the unmistakable power of his music. Edwin's newest production “Homenaje a los rumberos - 2012 Grammy Nomination as Best Tropical Latin Album - pays tribute to the New York salsa explosion of the '70s with vibrant new versions of dance-floor scorchers by the likes of Rubén Blades and Tite Curet Alonso.
His previous recordings, "Edwin y su son", "Soy la candela" and "Pa’la calle" received outstanding reviews and critical acclaim from renowned music critics like Descarga.com, All About Jazz, Allmusic.com, AOL Radio and The Miami Herald. Edwin continues his line of burning hot salsa albums with his fourth solo production. ‘HOMENAJE A LOS RUMBEROS’ pays tribute to the old school salsa masters, with original songs and classics like ‘Canto Abacua’ by Rubén Blades & ‘Ella Está En Otra Rumba’ by Tite Curet Alonso. Powerful horns, strong percussion riffs, crisp and wide vocal arrangements, deep live “descargas” are what define Edwin’s sound. Edwin blends rich Afro-percussion with blasting pure dance tracks for the real salsa dancers. Edwin takes us for a ride through many styles, blending rich Afro-Percussion interludes with blasting pure dance tracks, a true pleasure for the real salsa dancers. Featuring artists like: Giovanni Hidalgo, Cheito Quiñones, Jesus “El Niño” Perez and Ricardo Gaitán.

"..the most important factor is the musical depth and superb performances throughout. All solos in this recording are killers. Bonilla is a master at laying back, so much so that it seems as though he will not be able to jump ahead, only to then hit hard and fast with unparalleled skill and speed, heard to great effect during his timbale and conga solos and his bongo turns.

SONORA CARRUSELES (Colombia)

On stage: 12 + 2 crew

Touring period: Summer 2013

Based: Colombia

Booking territory: Europe

One of the best contemporary salsa music that exists today. Formed in Medellin, the group is well known throughout salsa dance circles for their energetic and fun salsa dance songs like "Micaela" "Al son de los cuervos", "Cachondea" and "La Comay". With nine albums to its credit and more than twelve years of existence, Colombia's Sonora Carruseles has perfected a trademark sound that is cherished by salsa lovers all over the world. The orchestra burst into the local tropical scene performing Afro-Caribbean rhythms, including a traditional style known as salsa brava, originated in the 1960s. Formed in 1995 by composer/producer Diego Galé and Mario Rincón, the group became a boogaloo and original salsa revival, taking over Latin America, the USA and Europe.

There's some seriously powerful stuff to be found in their music: spidery piano lines, tight polyrythms, explosive brass riffs, staccato cowbell patterns and impossibly nasal choruses that are just hard to resist. Sonora Carruseles plays a moving tribute to the spirit of old hard-core salsa while at the same time revamping this nearly forgotten classical style.

SISTEMA SOLAR (Colombia)

On stage: 7 + 5 crew

Touring period: July 2012

Based: Colombia

Booking territory: Switzerland

Joyful Afronauts of the Caribbean. Systema Solar Raps, Scratches, and Funkifies Colombia’s Technicolor Coast. A new craft is winging its way through the sonic solar system, built from creaky amps and sleek laptops, powered by dayglo Caribbean sun and the brilliant pulse of street parties, and steered by hip-hop Afronauts from one of the globe’s new music hotspots. Welcome aboard Colombia’s Systema Solar, the funkiest Technicolor hip-hop and DJ VJcrew/Latin sound system ever to be pulled by donkey or graced with slammin’ beats. Uniting Afro-Colombian roots with rap, scratching with Afro-Latin percussion, and unstoppable dance grooves with a live video mix, Systema Solar has landed on the world stage. Their florescent exuberance is inspired by a favorite local institution, the pikos, or mobile sound systems akin to Jamaica’s pick-ups, movable parties that can be set up anywhere. The group creates Colombian music that brings together the best of the country’s hip hop and techno scenes with the best of its roots. Made up of some of Colombia’s hottest rappers, techno DJs, percussionists, and video artists, the collective transforms the essence of the pikos into bangin’, infectious, vivid tracks that use everything from sampled 1940s vinyl to scratching to blazing drums. Powering all this creativity is another aspect of the Colombian Caribbean, verbena, the good-time celebratory spirit guiding parties from tiny hamlets to big cities. This positive focus on lifting spirits and getting down stands out in stark contrast to other hip-hop movements in Colombia.
