"Producing cross-rhythms like a drummer, smashing chordal flourishes like flamenco Guitarist and collating bebop and Colombian music, Edmar is almost a world unto him-self. The New York Times
The phenomenal Colombian harpist Edmar Castaneda, whose technically astounding approach to the instrument normally associated with classical music has been registering with scenesters over the past year. Covering independent, heavily grooving bass lines with his left hand while chording and also running counterpoint melodies and dazzling triplet figures with his right hand (a kind of Charlie Hunter or Joe Passian approach to the harp) Jazz Times
Edmar Castañeda has performed and recorded to rave critical reviews with an impressive lineup including the Chico O'Farrill Afro-Cuban Jazz Big Band, Lila Downs, Giovanni Hidalgo, Paquito D'Rivera, Wynton Marsalis, John Patitucci, Dave Samuels, John Scofield, Marcus Miller and many other great artists.
The legendary Paquito D’Rivera, recently Latin Grammy 2011 awarded for his Panamericana Suite - project in which Edmar participated - has remarked: “Edmar is an enormous talent; he has the versatility and the enchanting charisma of a musician who has taken his harp out of the shadow to become one of the most original musicians from the Big Apple”

Joyful Afronauts of the Caribbean.
Systema Solar Raps, Scratches, and Funkifies Colombia’s Technicolor Coast. A new craft is winging its way through the sonic solar system, built from creaky amps and sleek laptops, powered by dayglo Caribbean sun and the brilliant pulse of street parties, and steered by hip-hop Afronauts from one of the globe’s new music hotspots. Welcome aboard Colombia’s Systema Solar, the funkiest Technicolor hip-hop and DJ VJcrew/Latin sound system ever to be pulled by donkey or graced with slammin’ beats. Uniting Afro-Colombian roots with rap, scratching with Afro-Latin percussion, and unstoppable dance grooves with a live video mix, Systema Solar has landed on the world stage. Their florescent exuberance is inspired by a favorite local institution, the pikos, or mobile sound systems akin to Jamaica’s pick-ups, movable parties that can be set up anywhere. The group creates Colombian music that brings together the best of the country’s hip hop and techno scenes with the best of its roots. Made up of some of Colombia’s hottest rappers, techno DJs, percussionists, and video artists, the collective transforms the essence of the pikos into bangin’, infectious, vivid tracks that use everything from sampled 1940s vinyl to scratching to blazing drums. Powering all this creativity is another aspect of the Colombian Caribbean, verbena, the good-time celebratory spirit guiding parties from tiny hamlets to big cities. This positive focus on lifting spirits and getting down stands out in stark contrast to other hip-hop movements in Colombia.

Urban Salsa from the streets of Bogota! They have the freshness that only a young hard salsa band can have. La-33, was founded in 2002 by the two brothers Sergio and Santiago Mejia. The album debut titled "La-33", released in 2004 as an independent production, won immediate success for its arrangements, lyrics, clean recording and great sound, and specially for their worldwide Latin dance hit - "La Pantera Mambo", a mambo version of "The Pink Panther". This is clearly a band that generates excitement and does it with a sense of humor. Every La 33 musician comes from a different musical background: rock, funk, ska, folk, classical music, fusion and jazz. Perhaps it's this diversity that is one of the secrets of this ensemble's success. They're known as the rockers of salsa because they combine the true swing and sabor of the classic salsa orchestra with true rock'n'roll attitude.
"I loved this storming assault of Latin brass when we reviewed the album 'gozalo', but having seen them live I'm convinced that is one of the best party bands on the planet" Songlines, UK.

Here is a group that shares its folklore and its contagious enthusiasm!
Born in Brussels in 2005 and mainly composed by Colombian artists, its music is inspired by afro-Colombian rhythms and enriched by all kinds of modern sounds, like rock and funk. The band mixes cumbia, salsa, and other Colombian rythms such as champeta, chirimia and sanjuanero, to name a few. Originality and innovation are perhaps the best attributes associated with the band, which is constantly surprising audiences with their live performances and their inexhaustible energy. Strong wind
section, good funky feeling, and Rock ‘n Roll attitude
is the secret for this energy.

Peru's leading vocalist of all times, one of the most spectacular voices of Latin American music today, a diva, a folkloric artist with a message about race, class and self-esteem. In the early 70s Eva began to appear in many of the local “peñas criollas”, a gathering of musician friends, and began to define herself as one of the leading interpreters of Peru’s Música Criolla. From 1973 through 1975, she sang as the lead voice in the popular trio "Los Kipus", eventually leaving the group to pursue a solo career. By 1979, she began touring internationally, with appearances in Europe, the United States, Canada, and Japan and since then her music and live performances are requested on a yearly basis at international music events. In addition to Música Criolla, Eva emerged as the leading exponent of Afro-Peruvian landós and festejos. The most important interpreter of Peruvian music, deservedly known as the Queen of Landó, is today at her musical peak with 3 Latin Grammy nominations. Eva’s recording career spans over 20 albums.

The Cumbia Chilombiana of Chico Trujillo is a new fusion between tropical music, folklore and rock.
Literally the "Small Gangster" fill stadiums in Chile. Chico Trujillo adds spice to the Colombian cumbia of its Chilean culture and its almighty aspiration for the ska. Another beautiful story of cultures mixing.
"Fresh off the release of their new studio album "Plato Unico Bailable" Chico Trujillo has become the most beloved band for those looking to party until mid-morning. With music based on Colombian cumbia and empowered with a modern Chilean rock aesthetic, Chico takes traditional rhythms, doubles (or even triples) the tempo, and feeds off the dance-crazed fans that crowd the stage."

"Cumbia, Afro-Colombian rhythm, mixed with electro, is invading the dancefloors across the globe. Another musical fashion from the south as many others in recent years, such as kuduro in Angola or baile funk in Rio. Curiously, the spearhead of the nueva cumbia (Other labels: nu-cumbia, cumbia digital, cumbia sonidero) don't come from Colombia but from Mexico or Argentina. As Emiliano Gómez, 25 years old, native of the province of Buenos Aires, author of a fascinating first CD but also many mixes and compounds available on the Web." Libération

Calima brings a multicultural essence to their music, drawing from the cultural and national diversity of a group of experienced musicians and performers. Their show, which is further highlighted by the presence of dancers and movement, is a complete experience for the audience which they succeed in drawing into their performance as willing participants. With a distinct Flamenco touch, they create an elegant fusion with Brazilian, Cuban and Hindu percussion, violins, trumpets, palmas [characteristic hand-clapping in Flamenco]. Their dance-oriented and rhythmic music flows with elements of funk, rap and ethnic sounds. Calima breathes and, in so doing, gives freshness, spontaneity, brightness and color to its performances. In 2007 Calima's Album "Azul" was nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards in the category of best flamenco album. Calima entered the international scene playing at Coloeur Cafe and Afrolatino Festivals in Belgium, Roots - Amsterdam, Convivence - Toulouse, Spantapitas -Berlin and World Musicas - Bulgaria.

Featuring four Cubans, a Sicilian, a Brazilian and a Swiss they sing in Spanish, Portuguese and Italian (and can handle Arabic and English as well). Lariba's music covers a variety of ‘urban latin’ styles, mixing in elements of reggaeton, cumbia, hip-hop, son, mozambique, samba-reggae, baiao, mariachi, salsa, jazz, batá, santería, samba, bomba . . Whilst this might sound like a recipe for a dodgy international fondue. These guys are good, VERY good! Definitely one of the best surprises of the year! Recommended. Pass the fondue fork, please, someone.
