Palenque LP

PALENQUE LA PAPAYERA (Colombia)

On stage: 9 + 1 crew

Touring period: Whole year available

Based: Switzerland

Booking territory: Europe

Papayera is a kind of small processional fanfare typical of the Colombian Caribbean region. Palenque was the name given to the first town of Afro-Colombians who escaped from colonial oppression. With the arrival of the colony and the slavery in the XVI century, many African descendants and Mestizos got mixed and a new cultural fusion was born! When these brass bands began playing music, it was a complete fusion between European music and its instruments, African rhythms, art crafts and indigenous diversity and knowledge. Today, this tradition is being kept in carnivals, street parades and in modern popular music such as Vallenato and Cumbia. All the musical expressions born of the mixes between indigenous, African and Hispanic culture have a common goal: the reinforcement of their identity through socialization, dance, celebration and collective joy.
Palenque la Papayera represents this identity with a repertoire that is based on the rhythms of Cumbia, Porro, Puya and Fandango. The musicians come from folklore, classical music, jazz, electronic or improvised music. A rich amalgam that gives an original color to this festive music!

lariba

LARIBA (Switzerland, Cuba, Brazil, Italy)

On stage: 7 + 1 crew

Touring period: Whole year available

Based: Switzerland

Booking territory: Europe

Featuring four Cubans, a Sicilian, a Brazilian and a Swiss they sing in Spanish, Portuguese and Italian (and can handle Arabic and English as well). Lariba's music covers a variety of ‘urban latin’ styles, mixing in elements of reggaeton, cumbia, hip-hop, son, mozambique, samba-reggae, baiao, mariachi, salsa, jazz, batá, santería, samba, bomba . . Whilst this might sound like a recipe for a dodgy international fondue. These guys are good, VERY good! Definitely one of the best surprises of the year! Recommended. Pass the fondue fork, please, someone.

FLORIANO INACIO JUNIOR (Brazil)

On stage: 5 + 1 crew

Touring period: whole year available

Based: Switzerland

Booking territory: Switzerland

Floriano Inácio Jr. and Group This first solo album confirms Floriano Inácio Junior’s musical talent, which was already promisingly brought to light in previous group projects such as the Kaiapo trio. The pianist, who is from Brazil, is able to develop compositions that create a special fusion between Brazilian Jazz and different traditional Brazilian rhythms. An energizing freshness comes shining through his music, inspired by diverse influences such as the samba and other traditional rhythms. A piano line sometimes recalling the sound of cavaquinho (a small Brazilian Guitar). And more importantly we hear an amazing, natural and almost intuitive sense of melody. Floriano Inácio Junior and his truly gifted musicians unveil a brilliant and exciting bright form of jazz in this spectacular album.
